In July I'll be leaving LA at that departure time of 9:50 on Saturday night. We'll be staying in Silver Lake area.

We have to leave our airbnb by noon that day so we'll need to find some stuff to do so I was hoping to get some feedback/help from posters here.

I was going to ask what time should we get to the airport but looks like we have to return the car at 6 pm @ Enterprise. So if we returned the car at 6 pm I would think that would give us more than enough time to shuttle over & check into the flight/TSA.

Any suggestions on stuff that might be interesting to check out near LAX? I have a feeling that we'll probably do something around noon after we check out but probably will be done by 3-4 and will probably be looking for something. But due to LA traffic and not knowing the area that great we'd like to stay within a reasonable driving distance to the rental car spot.

Also, would it make sense to check our bags early? My friend I'm going with mentioned that but considering we have such a large time gap from 6-9:50 it seems pointless.

Thanks

I wouldn't stray too far from LAX even though you'll have about 4 hours between the car rental return and your flight departure. Ask whether Enterprise can hold your bags for you for a couple of hours. Perhaps you could take Uber or Lyft to Marina Del Rey or Manhattan Beach to have dinner and hang out and then head back to the airport to check in for the flight. Even on a Saturday night, LAX can be busy. What airline are you flying? Depending on the terminal you're departing from, you may be able to find a decent place to have dinner and drinks before your flight.

Flying United. But I'm kinda thinking we won't even try to do anything after 6 pm. I was just kinda wondering about areas not too far from LAX that we could hit up around 3-6 since we'll probably have some dead time. I'm not sure I want to be all the way over by Silver Lake after a certain time. Thanks for the help.

United Airlines is located in Terminals 7 & 8. Here's a map and directory of the eateries located in the United terminal:

https://www.lawa.org/uploadedFiles/LAX/pdf/T7.pdf

Looks like there's a steakhouse and a food court with a Wolfgang Puck and Carl's Jr.

Terminal 7:

A Quick Meal:
Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf: coffee, baked goods, snacks (Departure Level Food Court)
Klatch Coffee: special coffee, tea, pastries (Departure Level)

Fast Casual/Bars:
Loteria!! Grill: LAX's second outpost of the Farmers Market Mexican chain (Departure Level Food Court)
bld: sandwiches, salads, hot plates (Departure Level Food Court)
The Counter Custom Built Burgers: burgers and fries (Departure Level Food Court)
B Grill by BOA Steakhouse: burgers, salads, steaks, pastas, seafood (Departure Level)
Rolling Stone Bar & Grill: the rock and roll brand serves up bar food and booze (Departure Level)
Wolfgang Puck Express: pizza, salads, and sandwiches on the go (Departure Level, Pre-TSA)

Terminal 8:

A Quick Meal:
Carl's Jr - Green Burrito: traditional American and Mexican fast food (Departure Level)
Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf: coffee, baked goods, snacks (Departure Level)

Fast Casual/Bars
Corona Bar: bar food, beer, booze (across from Gate 87)
Engine Co. No. 28: full-service bar and restaurant with classic American cuisine (Departure Level)

You're very welcome. Since you're thinking of hitting up some places before 6 p.m., en route to the airport you could check out the Promenade at Howard Hughes Center located along Sepulveda Boulevard and Centinela Avenue off the I-405. There's a cineplex and several eateries. And it's just up the street from LAX. Marina del Rey would also be en route.

Thank you. I wish I could rep you again but have to spread some first. Looks like Marina Del Rey could be a great option since it's close by. After checking google maps it also seems that Venice is close by too. I've been there a few times already but my friend has not so it was on the bucket list to show off. Thinking maybe that might be something good to check out after we leave the apartment.

Yeah, Venice is interesting. A great place to people watch. You should be able to find a nice place to eat or drink along Washington Boulevard.

Venice on a Saturday, can be a pain to get out of, traffic wise, with tourists. I wouldn't go further than the Marina. If you just want an early dinner, on the water, Salt at the Marina Del Rey Hotel, is really nice.

If you goto Venice in the morning, you can turn in your car and check your bags early. Uber/lyft/taxi to eat at Manhattan Beach, walk down the beach path to Hermosa beach if you are interested in architecture. Get some drink in Hermosa Beach and leave by 7:30 Pm, that will give you 30 minutes to get to TSA, 20minute to clear TSA, then 1.5 hours before flight.
