Her is today's for 91030:

Note I could not get the photo to paste onto this page.

Dark Green is OK and yellow is not so good and each deeper color is worse and red is:"Unhealthy"

It does get even worse.

That area is in the yellow today and possibly in the orange tomorrow. It is not perfect as it changes hour to hour as you can see if you click the AQI loop button on the web page, but it is a good guide.
Thanks, but eek! The whole SoCal area is yellow or worse right now...

Thanks for those suggestions!

We really want to live within walking distance of a Metro station so that my husband doesn't need a car for work. Is this a pipe dream? I see there are several apartment buildings near the Fullerton station, but the online reviews mention lots of noisy college student parties and fire alarms going off in the middle of the night...

Yes and it is important to be sure you are not impacted by it. For most people yellow is no big deal, but for others even that first stage is not good. I am one of those. Things change as we get older.

Tenants typically have to give a 30-day notice (sometimes 60 days, but 30 is more common) so bigger apartment communities will have an idea of their availability for a couple weeks out. But individual landlords typically wait until the house is vacant & cleaned and as such will be looking for a quick turnaround. Like within a week or so. So it'll depend on what kind of lifestyle you're looking for.

I am also going to second going further past Pasadena as well. Don't get me wrong - Pasadena is awesome and if you can find something there, by all means. There's a TON to do there and great walkability. But 1 beds can go for $2600/mo so I'm not sure you'll be able to get as much for your money. One of my closest friends works at Pasadena Gateway Villas right there at the Lake Ave stop, I can ask her what their availability looks like.

But if you keep going, it gets a little more cost effective. I have clients in Duarte that use the metro for work in Pasadena. It takes him 20 mins. And I think to Union Station is another 20 so that should still work, have a sense of community, and be more bang for your buck.

Since you're new and renting with a decent budget I'd actually advise staying in Pasadena for the lifestyle it offers that you desire while you become more familiar with different areas perhaps further out.

Find something in walking distance to the Mission Gold Line Station in South Pasadena. Walkable area and accessible to several freeways when you do get in the car (210/134/110/5).
