Good location for walking/biking to ocean/shopping
1447 Franklin St, Santa Monica
I do need to be close to the 405, (commuting to Northridge) so this is a good location for an apartment, but just wondering if my goal to be able to get to the beach after work for a walk or bikeride would be pretty undoable without driving.
but, to be honest, I'm also considering Brentwood, which I guess isn't close to the water either! Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Franklin isn't super close to the beach, but anywhere within the city limits of Santa Monica is reasonable. You could always jump on the Big Blue Bus for 75 cents if its too much of a bike ride for. Also, Broadway has a bike path that runs up to Franklin I think. You could ride your bike on the Broadway bike path.

You would be about 3 miles from the beach at that location. Think you'd be up for a six mile round trip bike ride?

Out of curiosity, what time will you be leaving Northridge (where in Northridge) to come home?

I'd be leaving for northridge between 7:00 and 8:00 in morning ...
and between 6:00 and 7:00 in the evening. Several people from work live in Santa Monica, Brentwood and even Pasadena. Times don't seem to exceed 30 to 40 minutes. I know people here say this commute should be terrible, but no one from work ever speaks to the 1 1/2 hours that people here have quoted, so it's a little confusing.
