Wasn't there a good Hard Rock station is Los Angeles back in the 90's...
Wasn't there a Hard Rock or Active Rock station back in the 1990s that catered mostly to heavy metal acts...KROQ appears have a somewhat better playlist than KDGE in DFW, but still they seem to favor more pop acts than hard rock...except for the occasional metallica, rancid, bar religion...anyone listen to kdld...the indie rock station?

Jeez, am I old.

Wait a second.
Two very different stations. They both filled a vacuum left over when KMET died and everything else (KLOS, and whatever 93.1 is called) went classic rock.
Long Beach Press Telegram, right? Thats KNAC, a Long Beach station. Metal music.
Burning Hendrix? That's KROQ, the Roq of the 80s. Depeche Mode, Oingo Boingo, the Cure, B-52s, etc. Rodney on the Roq, Poorman, jed the fish, blade, freddy snakeskin.
Speaking of DJs, are Jim Ladd and Joe Benson still on the air out there?

Jim Ladd is out there unfortunately. He's so burnt out from all the drugs of many years ago it's sad.
KNAC and Pirate Radio were the metal radio stations.
98.7(formerly Star) is now a hard rock station and already has a better playlist than KLOS

I mentioned KROQ as an aside, at least that was my intention. And yes, KNAC went metal (among other things) much later. It was actually a 'new wave' station run largely by Jimmy Christopher.
Jim Ladd, ugh. He was fun 30 years ago but he's hit self-parody IMHO.
