Did the clippers have horrible attendance in san diego? did they feel that la's bball culture was enough to sustain two teams? it seems like the poor clippers aren't getting much respect from the people in this forum

The Clippers as an organization don't deserve respect. Their owner is a cheap ass who trades off his talent as soon as they come knocking for a raise. They will never be good because they can't hold onto decent players. What perpetuates this, is that Mr. Sterling is one of the most profitable owners in all of professional sports. He leaches off of the high demand and limited supply of Lakers tickets. He has no reason to win when it will only hurt his bottom line.

ya we dont got too much love anywhere and its true d. sterling hasnt really tried to keep players here. he shoulda kept odom, he shoulda kept lots of guys. seems hes more interested in his sterling towers than anything. i do commend him for the new skid row project he wants to do, but he is very disconnected from the sport and when he has had the chance to scoop up some good players he has faltered. lets see how well smush does with my LA team now. i hope livingston can come back soon. it was the worst sports injury i have seen. seems like a whole bunch of bad luck. but i have faith. ooh child things are gunna get better...

How did the clippers owner make his fortune? Am I to understand that he makes loads of money off the team by leaching off the lakers fans who can't afford the high demand tickets, and doesn't invest in good talent? So basically, this guy keeps getting richer because he doesn't have to invest in better players and still has a bottom line because la is such a basketball loving area?

The Lakers have always been about Hollywood, glamour, showtime. They own that connection.

-Jack Nicholson
-Dyan Cannon (looking great BTW)
-Magic, the showtime team of the 80's.

Then after Magic retired to about the mid 90's, 95/96, they still had a good following. They've never really been "dead", the way the Bulls were after Jordan or the Celtics after Bird. People loved Chick Hern and Stu Lanz, even in the days of Elden Campbell, Vlade, Randy Pfund?, Van Excel.

Compare Chick and Stu to Ralph Lawler (Oh, me oh my! haha), no comparison.

Really no geographical preferences, like mets, yankees or cubs/sox's. Like you're on someone elses turf, clipper and laker fans are friendly.

A few years ago when the lakers were winning championships with the shaq, kobe dynasty, tons of cars had Laker flags on their cars, you'd see them everywhere.

Donald Sterling made his fortune in real estate, but he manages to grow his fortune keeping the Clippers in last place almost every season. I once heard somewhere that the Clippers are the losingest (sp?) franchise in American sports historty. Not a bad reputation, eh?

The Lakers and Clippers are the only basketball teams in all of Southern California.\

24 million people and only two teams!

I think the vast majority of basketball fans in the whole region love the Lakers.

And mainly because of that "showbiz" factor they were posting about.

I wonder why SD can't commit to getting another b-ball team.

And LA NEEDS to get the Raiders back! just saying...

People love the Lakers because they win! Kobe!

Yeah, Sterling is a dick [business only -hope it changes some day] but the Clippers can look quite impressive when healthy. Affordable basketball but less of a solid fan base.

And if the Raiders do come back, how about if they return to their original colors: black, white and gold. (Kind of like Army).

How about the Los Angeles Dons? Bring them back.

Can one tell me how much a Lakers ticket costs and how much a Clippers ticket costs in comparable sections of the Staples Center?
