Hey,
I was curious if there are any geographic loyalties (similar to the Chicago Cubs/White Sox) to the Clippers/Lakers or if it is simply just who you prefer...that being said I was sad to see the Lakers beat the Mavericks Sunday last week.
Thanks

The Clippers have really never had a winning culture. No championship history. Always in the Lakers shadow. They weren't that good in Buffalo (Braves) or San Diego either prior to moving to LA.

The Lakers have won more NBA championships (14) than anyone other than the (spit) boston celtics (spit) (16, and I think seven of those championships were against the Lakers. Ouch.) .

Up until about ten years ago, it was sort of the same way with the Dodgers and Angels (but not as pronounced as Lakers and Clippers).

I wouldn't think there would be a geographical split for the teams since they both play at the Staples Center if I'm not mistaken.

There's not so much a geographical split as there is a psychological split. If you like being happy, you root for the Lakers! If you like being sad, you root for the Clippers!

Unlike the Dodgers & Angels, basketball in LA is non-geographic [though baseball isn't very geographic either]. Lots of people attend Clipper games but the Lakers have always been LA's team.

ya'll really dont know then... so let me tell you:
Lakers have traditionally been the hollywood team. the post card of LA team. the clippers, well they the getto team. in the hood we mostly root clippers. lakers of course cuz we all like to feel the winning spirit, but with the clips its a bit of the underdog thing i suppose. the lakers are the glitzy hollywood team. the showbiz team. its the image they want to sell to the world. to be considered a great city you have to have some great sports team and the lakers are the main team for that. the clips on the other hand are more of a peoples team. the forgotten, abandoned, down and out team. seriously, most clips fans are from the hood. at least in my observation. and im not counting that frankie muniz kid.
GO CLIPS!!! we got 20 wins finally! if we'da lost to the heat...that woulda been pitiful. if you ride around south cental youll see as much clips as lakers and possibly more clips adoration.

Agree entirely, bro. LA is a basketball city w/ plenty of fans. Clipper tickets are less expensive & hey a lot of great teams come thru LA each year [Spurs/Suns/Celtics/etc]. Your point about great cities wanting great teams is right but what about New York City? lol
