I'm surprised that South Pasadena is listed, but Pasadena isn't... There are all kinds of us Gays and Lesbians in Pasadena, and it's definitely very Gay friendly here...

I know, but you called it a suburb of LA in an earlier post.

I said the westside (includes WeHo, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills, Culver City, and a lot of the city of LA in its western end) has a similar culture which happens to be liberal and gay friendly

I am aware that L.A is vast in size and very different from other US cities with regards to it's high crime rate and poor transit system. I would appreciate some advice on any 'gay friendly' neighbourhoods and some advice on how easy/difficult it will be to find work in a bar/restaurant. PS - I don't drive. Thank you!
What is interesting about minority neighborhoods, is that usually this means that neighborhoods that are less white, are often cheaper, perhaps more run-down, and have higher crime rates. The problem with areas that are predominated by gays is that they cause the opposite effect; the property values begin to rise along with the cost of living. For LA you see this in West Hollywood.

Go with west hollywood... the most central and good walkability.
Silverlake/echo park if you're into the music/arts scene.
Personally, being a gay dude as well, I would avoid the westside (santa monica, venice, southbay)... pretty boring IMO
Oh, and long beach/belmont shores is a good distance from the rest of LA

If you want a gay area in the Valley, go with NoHo or Studio City. Each nabe has its fair share of gay bars and believe it or not gay churches. Based on the latest census, the south east valley had a higher concentration of gay couples than other parts of the valley. This area also voted against Prop 8 at a higher rate. BTW, the guy who started the NOH8 campaign where he photographed celebrities with duct tape and painted "NoH8" on their cheek lives here in NoHo.

Check it out: NoHo NoH8

The first city that came to mind is West Hollywood, but Studio City too! Actually I agree with laysayfair, anywhere in LA is gay friendly but stay away from the suburbs IMHO.
