Do you guys like the new bike lanes on Venice Blvd in Mar Vista? Venice Blvd was a 6 lane road, now its a 4 lane road with 2 bike lanes. Most people that I talked to don't like it because it slows traffic down.

This along with the changes to Culver, Vista Del Mar, and Pershing should increase the demand of property in the westside I think it is good for the people that own property on the westside. Localism and NIMBYism at its finest.

For someone who actually lives nearby and frequents this stretch - on foot, the changes are great. Many of my neighbors feel the same way. However, the opposing crowd is extremely rabid and quite vocal with their disapproval.

I live in that area. It has made Venice as screwed up as the other east-west west side streets like Wilshire, Pico, and Santa Monica. It is messing up one of the last decent areas on the westside in the city of L.A. and made it very difficult for people commuting to work in other neighborhoods. The city of L.A. needs to know that social engineering will not get people to give up their cars and take public transportation. The best way to get people to take public transportation is to actually build public transportation.

Preoccupied? You're the one who brought up the subject matter. Furthermore, I've driven through the area recently, and fail to see why I should support impeding traffic, especially when there's potentially a ripple-carry affect for miles in any direction of Mar Vista.

John and Ken KFI640 talk radio have been discussing this a lot. There is an all out effort to get Californians out of their cars and into public transit and bikes. How many 60+ year old's are going to ride bikes? I have read articles online and most - do not like this idea and are angry. It has caused great congestion. Doug McIntyre - a writer, wrote a great piece in the Daily Breeze/Daily News. Read it if you have time.

This isn't just about Venice Blvd- Pershing but the entire Los Angeles area, California, and this utopia that Garcetti has in mind especially for his legacy. We definitely do not need him running for Governor of California. Mike Bonin is another screwball.

The people backing this belong to an advocacy group called calbike.org. Why would you take away car lanes for bike lanes in Los Angeles? We have enough traffic-congestion and long commutes already for young families. It shows how very selfish they are.

venice was one of the great workhorses moving traffic through the westside. I took it daily back and forth to work between Mar Vista and hollywood. It was already pretty congested, but now it is worse. You'd think that the Great Streets could have done some Great Traffic Light Synching. They did not. With better light management, the 2 lanes and bike lanes could be a good idea.

OH!! and people along Venice still bike on the sidewalk (not all of course, but unless you're a kid or someone riding with a kid, use the street lane!). I walk that stretch a lot and I'm like, "Really??"

Another downside is that now Washington Pl. has seen a huge traffic increase. People live along Washington Pl and now have increased noise from the thumping cars that used to race down Venice.
