Come on people. Let’s not ignore the elephant in the room. As much I don't like to talk about this stuff on this board, the rest of the country is talking about it.

So I would be remiss not to bring it up.

This isn't about gang violence. This was clearly a hate crime. We have an inept mayor, who wouldn't get re-elected for a second term and our police forces are improperly funded.

I could feel the tension in the air yesterday between Blacks towards to Mexicans.

I'm sorry but I am loosing all respect for Mexican people and the bigotry-racist ways that they have towards Blacks.

Jamiel Shaw Jr's killer, Pedro Espinoza, needs to be put to death immediately after the trial, not set on death row for 50 yrs wasting tax payers money.

Are you African-American...just curious to see how someone of color felt about this tragedy compared to a Caucasian(myself)...I personally can't imagine what the poor mother is feeling (serving her country honorable)...it is horrible...I dunno if the death penalty is necessarily the answer but I want to see justice...swift justice...do you know if this person was in the country legally? Thanks

knowing the ineptitude of the LAPD, i keep asking myself if they really found the killer, or just rounded up the "usual suspects" and picked the ugliest one in the bunch. I guess this Pedro Espinoza character was just released from jail/prison (don't remember which) days before the killing.

i wonder, too, but i don't expect the LA Times to say. however, if he were illegal, he probably would have fled the country, so i'm guessing this one is probably home-grown.

my heart is breaking for mrs. shaw, as well. i hope the army offers some kind of compassion leave so she can stay home and grieve her son. of course, she will probably insist on going back, regardless. our soldiers are like that, god bless 'em!

Well, I don't want the people who came into my villaraigosa thread and who called me out along with the anti-illegal so-cal posters which was most of them...to once again accuse me of being an anti-Latino bigot...I have read that illegals are coming into neighborhoods that were primarily African-American and it is turning those neighborhoods into a powderkeg of dog eat dog violence...at my high school...there wasn't alot of violence...you know just the pushing and shoving stuff...no guns...but I did see some fights...before I was able to drive...and had to wait to be picked up...mostly one kid who was hispanic and another who was black...has anyone in the city government there proposed ways to make this not happen...the death and sadness...or is it the satus-quo...we all know that what happened in the south (whites lynching blacks supposedly vigilante justice-many times killing innocents and simply being outright racist) was horribly wrong...it doesn't make sense why this isn't being called racist in its own right...because both groups are a minority? I don't know who does more to who latinos to blacks...blacks to latinos...but I know that it is racism...this coming from a white guy who has looked at all skin colors as equals...only looking down upon them where there characters seems bad...only the good lord knows if this inner city and maybe sometimes suburban violence can be stopped by people realizing we are all human...we all have are positive and negative attributes...can't we all just get along?

since one cannot solve a problem without first acknowledging that the problem exists, i'm afraid that the answer is NO! the mayor and police chief are doing their best to downplay the racial overtones of this incident. somewhat regretably, so is the shaw family, although i can understand that they would not want to risk causing more violence by getting people riled up over their son's death. however, i would prefer that they said nothing, rather than lend a credible voice to the official denial that mexican gangs are targeting blacks on the street.

Yeah, when compton was still more than half black populated it was all sunshine and gum drops.

And the only reason you keep getting called out is because you can't seperate the two concepts of an immigrant and a criminal. You have this ignorant idea of brown people rushing across the border to rape, pillage, and plunder.

I dont meant to attack you, but its really frustrating, and offensive.

Immigrants don't come here to live in ****ty apartments, sell drugs, and kill people.

The gang culture is very deeply rooted in LA, it has been for decades, and its here to welcome them when they get here. When they arrive here, and are treated like sub-human peasants, some of the young ones want to be "SOMEONE" and all they can do is join a gang to be recognized and feared. then the cycle starts.

The Black and Mexican communities need to work harder to make peace. They share the same neighborhoods, and deal with many of the same problems. Instead of beign scared of each other, and letting the media turn them against each other, they should do more to keep their children from being tempted to join gangs, and when you prevent that, you prevent these pointless murders.
