Which part of West Covina is considering decent area? And 'Not so good' area? (Los Angeles: apartment complex)

A buddy of mine who went to Cal Poly lived in an apartment complex out there. It was pretty safe where he was at, we walked to the Denny's at night and the streets were completely empty.

I know that doesnt help much, haha. But mabye check out a Cal Poly forum and ask what neighborhoods a lot of students live in.

I lived in West Covina for two years and there is no "bad" part. The whole city is very beautiful and I felt incredibly safe there. The police are wonderful. They are actually polite. My bike was stolen and they recovered it in under an hour. On time I came home and found a stranger wandering around, the police showd up in five muinutes and walked me in to searched my apartment just to make sure. (I lived next to the 10 freeway) If I had more money I would move back in a minute.

Basically anything west of Azusa Avenue is more working class as well as the Woodside Village area next to Industry and these areas have more of a gang presence due to the areas they're near (Baldwin Park, La Puente, unincorporated Covina). The 91791 zip code is the best part. Not a resident but it is fairly close to where I live.

I'd have to agree the other comments.
East of the West Covina Mall is best. The area considered the "South Hills" area is even better.

I grew up in West Covina, back when it was safe. If you think it's a safe area now, you're living in some kind of bubble. Stay away from the mall, do not go down to Amar section, and never walk through a parking lot anywhere alone! (Even if you're full of muscles). I am currently still in the area, although east, bordering Glendora and San Dimas. I will be moving out-of-state this summer (if the house sells). The area has really declined, with graffiti, more traffic, more illegals, more crime, over-crowded schools, etc. I would think long and hard before moving here. If you must move to this area, my recommendation would be to live in Covina, not West Covina. If you can afford a bit more, San Dimas and Glendora are both fairly nice.

I have found everything you've sad in your post to be completely untrue. In fact, the West Covina mall is one of my favorite hang outs both the Westfield side and the Edwards Cinema area. I've never had a problem there. I'd love to know where this graffiti is, because I've never seen it in the two years I lived there or in the time since I've but constantly visit. If I could find a job in the area, I'd move back in a heartbeat. Though I have to be honest and say I've never been near the Amar section so maybe that's where you are talking about because it's not true of the area near the Covina/West Covina border.

I guess you've never heard of the shootings that took place at the mall or opened your eyes to the gang-bangers that frequent the entire area. Maybe graffiti is a form of artwork to you if you've never noticed it. I've been here 42 years, and believe me, it ain't NOTHING like it used to be. There could be worse areas, yes, but West Covina is far from a nice area, in my opinion. It was the place to be back in the 50's when people actually respected each other and their properties.

Hate to break it to you but the world in its entirety was a better place, for the most part, in the 50's. Overcrowding, crime and cities becoming rundown are not exclusive to the Los Angeles area. Welcome to 2008
