I'm not familiar with the downtown area of late. That said, are there parts of the gentrified areas that can be safely walked at night, or does everybody hunker down in their secured apartment building, something akin to the film Omega Man?

There are large areas that are generally safe (South Park, Financial District), but most of downtown still has a sketchy vibe. I live in South Park and regularly stumble back home between 11p-2a.
