Actually you are both wrong. When the company was RTD, the bus system was great. It was so good that I didn't even bother getting my license until I was 30. I saw (suffered through) the decline of the bus system. Most of the old drivers don't drive anymore (for MTA, they actually drive for other LA county bus companies) because the company deteriorated so much that they jumped ship the minute they hit their twenty years. Why is the bus system so bad? Because the company is letting the bus service suffer in favor of building rail systems that service a minority of the customers of the service. MTA's goal is to get the suburbanites to ride into the city. They have forgotten the person who needs the service. That person doesn't matter to MTA. The person who needs it can't pay the exorbitant prices that MTA wants to charge. Five dollars a day or $71 or $62 per month might be inexpensive for someone making 24K+ per year, but the hourly worker who needs the bus can't afford it. They can barely afford the bus now. What should they do when they can no longer afford the bus because the yuppies got their rail system and long distance buses that don't service the day-to-day user. Too bad, so sad, we don't care if you are poor and could barely afford to get to work, our need to get to work is more important than yours.

"letting the bus service suffer in favor of building rail systems that service a minority of the customers of the service. "

Again, WTF? The Red Line carries 125,000 people a day, the Blue Line 80,000 a day. The busiest bus line carries less than 50,000 a day. The trains are not full of rich people. It's about capacity, speed, and quality. The buses are an important part of the system, but they can't possibly keep up with the growth. The trains are not being built to service rich suburbanites, they are built to take over service from bus lines that have been maxed out and to grow the overall reliability of the system. The BRU has you fooled.

I am sorry you hate what LA is becoming, but it looks like you are moving away anyway (Arkie?). I for one think Los Angeles is maturing, which is a good thing, as do most of the people I know. Most of do not drive.

Found another new trick.

Google Maps has public transportation integrated into their maps for some routes. It works for Orange, CA to Los Angeles, CA for example but it didn't work for Burbank to LAX....

from: orange, ca to: los angeles, ca - Google Maps

Look for a public transportation link and try it out....

I noticed that, very nice and about time. I have been on a mini-campaign to get transit-adjacent businesses (especially the large ones) to list the subway/rail stops by their businesses. It took months but I was able (with MTA help) to get the El Capitan to reference Metro Rail. Amazing as they are ACROSS THE STREET from Hollywood and Highland. And how long has Disney been running movies out of that theatre? Appalling.

I helped pay for this system with my tax dollars and I'll be damned if it goes under-utilized or not promoted.

I have deleted a number of posts in here due to personal attacks and off topic posts. This thread is about transportation in L.A. Let's keep it that way or this thread will be closed. If any of you have a gripe about another poster, take it to DM, please - or alert me so I can deal with it accordingly.

Thank you.

Sure I think that you could live in West LA without a car and still have a good life. Just buy a cheaper bicycle that you wouldn't cry about if stolen. I think the needing a car myth in LA is more for if you live outside of the westside. I saw busses alot while I was on vacation and stayed in Hollywood. Actually, I got stuck behind them several times when driving my rental car.
