Why makes it so bad is the SIZE of the town.
St:Louis is small! DAMN!

I saw a documentary by Ross Kemp about gangs over there. I suggest u all watch it. good documenteary

There's two side to LA and people outside CA see. Either a ghetto gangland, or a Hollywood hills super rich movie star scene. But the facts are LA is no where near as bad as Detroit or apparently St. Louis. LA has more gangs than any other city but not as much crime.

I agree!!! I used to be an over the road trucker and my job took me to places like Fontana, Walnut, Santa Fe Springs so on and so on. I would have to say that the LA area is by far the prettiest and safest big city area I've ever visited in the country!!! This is coming from a guy that lives in North Carolina.

Most people in LA I encountered (people working at the places I delivered to) were very friendly and quite helpful. Often times, I would chat with area drivers on the CB radio. They were very nice and helpful with driving directions around town. The south is known for being friendly, but I know several southerners that are very judgemental and somewhat ignorant to people that are not like them or do not agree with "the southern way". LA is so free by comparison. You can be who you are without fear of being judged. At least it seemed that way to me. This may be why LA just seemed nicer and safer to me than the east coast. The east is kinda uptight. The south is very uptight. Maybe that's why a southern city made the list as most dangerous. It doesn't surprise me at all that southern cities have a presence in the most dangerous list. I am kinda surprised more cities in the south don't.

That said, LA is very clean and safe from what I could see. The traffic is a different story, but that is just the side effects of having an area millions desire. 10 million people can't be wrong.

I think that might be the best thing about L.A. No matter who you are or what you want to do, you'll fit right in.

But I was curious to see the actual overall numbers since the FBI releases violent crime numbers by catagory and not as an overall total. The catagories are murders, rapes, robbery, assault, burglary, larceny theft and vehicle theft.
So the equation (which shows you how bored I was! ) goes like this: add the entire number of violent crimes divided by the population and multiply by 100,000. So for LA the equation is (135,985(crimes)/3,879,455(population))x100,000= 3505 violent crimes per 100,000 people.
So I did this equation for the central city cores of the 20 largest metropolitan areas in the country and here were the results (in order of lowest to highest crimes per 100,000):
NYC 2517
Los Angeles 3505
San Diego 4073
Riverside-San Bernardino 5285
Chicago 5753
Boston 5801
San Francisco 5833
Philadelphia 5837
Washington DC 5919
Phoenix 6672
Miami 6672
Baltimore 6765
Tampa 6792
Houston 7006
Seattle 7483
Minneapolis 7621
Dallas 8063
Atlanta 8188
Detroit 9467
St Louis 14228

So the Crips, who are a black gang, shot the girl because she was black? This is what you heard? Kind of hard to take statements as fact when they begin with "I heard...".
