KTown is cool, it's mainly Korean, but alot of Hispanics live in the areas south of it (the non-trendy ones) and many hipsters are moving in (especially to the new lofts).
It also has alot of coffee bars that function as clubs at night time

I knew a guy who went to USC a few years ago and lived up on Beverly and Vermont (near Hollywood, north of K-town) and took the Vermon bus to his classes.

Do you know how long it took to get there? How was his experience of doing this?

from k town south to USC is relatively quick, even on the bus. be mindful of where you live, try to live where most of the students live and dont forget it is USC, the university of SOUTH CENTRAL.

I am not 100% certain, but I do know that if you have classes during normal business hours, you'd actually have a reverse commute. You can look up the times that MTA has posted on the website metro.net | Transit Services and Information for Los Angeles County. As far as his experience, it seemed like he enjoyed it. The obvious benefits are that you don't have to drive in traffic to class and you get to avoid paying the parking fees, which are probably in the hundreds of dollars per semester. The guy was from a very sheltered asian family and grew up in Orange County, so I figure if he can do it, anybody can.

USC is not in South Central. It's just surrounded by a high Black population, which, to some people, means South Central. South Central's north boundary starts about two miles south beginning approx Slauson.

that's what i thought, but i once read something city-official that placed its northern boundary at the 10. ironically, this was around the same time they started insisting on calling it "south LA" rather than "south-central." if the boundary is that far north, then the name south-central makes a lot more sense.
on a related note: does anyone remember those "south central" t-shirts that became popular immediately after the '92 riot? they came in black, white and goldenrod (i think), and had a colorful circular design on the front that incorporated all the zip codes in south central. i remember at the time finding it very odd that anyone considered places like view park/windsor hills
(90043) and baldwin hillls (90008) to be "south central."

I've decided people are stupid. The media is lazy. Thus, if they see more than one Black face, AHHH! We're in South Central!

Leaving aside terminology of whether it's called "south central" or not, what exactly is it that makes West Adams/ 90007 a "bad area"? I want to hear from people who have actually been through the area extensively, not just what you've "heard" from someone else. It might sound obvious to some, but I want to hear the specifics.

Okay. I'll be specific. On the King Blvd/Vermont side, there are a lot of drug dealers and gang bangers. There are a lot of assaults and thefts in that area. The police try to keep it under control because of USC. That's why the Jefferson side of USC is almost a complete contrast.
