Gas Prices Around Town
I paid 3.78 per gallon just the other day. Anyone feeling the pinch at the pump? How do you feel about Mike Feuer and his proposal to hike gas another 9 cents per gallon for a "Global Warming Tax"?
I am feeling fed up.

Personally, I take the bus to work nowadays. Its saved me A LOT of money. Last time I pumped gas into my car was about two weeks ago. I've lost a bit of weight because of it too!!

I telecommute and and only have to fill up every 2-3 weeks so it's not a huge issue. But I still think we're being gouged.

I did some simple math a while back and calculated that if the gas tax was raised another 10 cents/gallon, then a person that drives 20,000 miles/year in a car that gets 20mpg, they would only pay an extra $100/year! If you can't afford that, then you probably shouldn't be living in CA to begin with!

This is probably not a very popular opinion, but, I'd like to see gas prices go through the roof. $10.00 per gallon and use the extra money for public transportation construction. Not adding buses. Construction of light rail lines and commercial freight lines from the ports to replace trucks. Work an agreement with the fed govt to pick up a hefty % of the costs as well.
It will force the general public to demand better and more alternatives to public transportation.

Dude, that is a ridiculous option...we need put these oil ceos in their place and take away these tax incentives to screw americans who depend on their vehicles...should we get better mass transit options? absolutely...but...many of us have a car as our only option right now...

If the gas goes to 4 bucks a gallon (and they tack on all the extra gas taxes only californians pay) that's going to be much more than 100 bucks extra a year. Especially in Southern California where everyone drives long distances and sits in butt to butt traffic burning fuel.

as soon as my tank gets down to half, i think about filling it up again, because i'm afraid that by the time i actually need gas, it will cost another ten cents per gallon. i remember being mildly horrified the first time i spent $30 to fill up (in 2003). last week, i spent $55 to fill the same tank.

Not really. My post said use the increased costs to fund transportation projects.
It will force people to: rideshare, bicycle, motorbike, take public transportation, and most importantly, it will create a State where the public will actually be forced to take some initiative and demand alternative and public transportation from the Govt. You know the State works for the taxpaying public. Taxpayers have to tell them what they want in the form of a very large and focused group. Unfortunately, public at large is lax, lazy and irresponsive unless an issue hits them hard right in the face and doesnt go away.
