The previous poster is correct. The white and green stickers are still valid...for now. The red ones are valid for a few more years. If you have yellow ones, you are a$$ out. Just because you have a Prius does not mean you can be in the HOV lanes UNLESS you also have a valid sticker.

The reason there are so few CHP is very simple. The state of California would rather spend their money on social services (of which they have proudly claimed to exceed the federal minimum of spending on social services) than highway safety, road repair, dam maintenance, forestry management, and many other very necessary services. Not to get overly political, but you can safely assume a VERY large portion of said social services go to residents who are not necessarily here by entirely legal means. I'll just leave it at that.

Welcome to Kalifornia.

I was waiting for that. The instant I thought, "Where is the CHP?" I figured I'd let somebody else pop the punch line.

I'll be happy to be your set-up man any time!

This is somewhat relevant but somewhat not... we have a bad problem with this in Houston and they even have plastic barrier polls separating the toll lanes and HOV lanes from the regular freeway lanes. We have county constables up and down the dedicated lanes but some people will try to run over the plastic barriers if they see a police car ahead.

Jeremy, you are welcome to our topic any time! Anybody who has to live in your humidity deserves to virtually visit Lost Angeles!

Actually I've been in Houston only once and the weather was as nice as L.A.

Thank you, I appreciate it. I still have family in California so I like to browse it sometimes and see what’s going on, I haven’t been back in a while but sure do miss beautiful California.

And yeah, we get some insanely humid days, but it has its fair share of nice days when it’s not summertime. 😜

Beware the monsoon! We get that in Santa Fe and in Phoenix. (I lived in The City Different for a while, and own houses in Phoenix.)

Some freeways have them here too, I’m sure the 91 in Orange County has them separating the carpool/toll road. In the 1970’s I can only recall the 10 freeway having it, but now I think they have all been knocked down.

Probably by drunk drivers.

I drive the carpool lane and carry my son in a car seat to his grandmother early morning on the 405 freeway. Because my SUV sits up high and the factory tinted windows probably prevents most from seeing the car seat. I also have his car seat in the middle section, which would make it even tougher for another driver to see.

I also wanted to make a defense on the quote above about crossing the double yellow lines. I know as many drivers in the fast lane will speed up/tailgate the car in front to prevent those in the carpool lane from exiting when it’s legal. Yes there has been times when I had no choice but to cross over the double yellow either before or after the broken white line in order to make my exit. Usually I try to get out of the carpool lane prior to the final one I need to to get off the freeway for the very reason we have idiot rude people on our freeways.
