I go to Olvera street once a month. You generally don't see many white tourists. Most are Latino and Asian.

Most tourists don't know Olvera street exists or just not what they are into. I read a lot of TripAdvisor and reddit threads and the vast majority don't have Olvera street even downtown LA on their itinerary. It's Hollywood, Santa Monica, Beverly Hills and theme parks.

For locals, there is not much need to go to Olvera street for Mexican food. It's everywhere. Maybe around their block. Unlike Korean food when Koreatown is where you go. The only time you see a greater mix of people are during special events like day of the dead, Mexican independence, religious holidays, may 5th.

I'm also not white, but aside from the cultural aspects I find Olvera Street to be tacky with limited retail spaces that sell very similar and often identical merchandise. I visit it every few years because that's how long it takes to forget how underwhelming my previous visit was. It's the type of place that most people only go to once or maybe just on school field trips. That said, I do know quite a few Mexicans that go fairly regularly. I don't get it, but I don't have to get everything. I just know that it's not for me.

Regarding the crowd, sometimes I've been and it's been overwhelmingly Hispanic, but I've also been when it's been majority white. I don't think that I've ever been when there weren't at least a noticeable amount of whites.

What times do you go? I've seen significant numbers of white tourists on Saturday mornings and afternoon. I don't recall seeing many Asians, but it's not like I'm counting races.
