Copy Guy you are absolutely correct..very well said..this has become shooting practice towards the county of Los Angeles and its great inhabitants and the great things it stands for.

I've met my fair share of good honest latinos from Brazil and Mexico while living in Phoenix on the west side (Van Buren and 35th) but they were illegal-couldn't honestly tell you why they never registered-what's to be afraid of if you're legit?! On the other hand, i've met many illegals that wouldn't be able to become U.S citizens for convictions and a myraid of other things. This in itself is the brunt of everyone's frustrations.

It doesn't matter if your frustrated with illegal immigration, that's fine, there's nothing wrong with that. But puting a bulls eye on their backs, and telling them and everyone else they create every problem in Los Angeles and California, and they have absolutely destroyed California, is beyond racial stereotype and racism. The California forum is ripping into good people. Now you haven't done that, you're a good person. Now when you said all arabs are not all terrorist but terrorists are mainly arabs. I know what you're saying you're feelings in a respectful, non-bias opinion, but be careful not to offend people. But this forum has become venom towards these people, they may be illegal but their still people. It takes ten years to get papers to legalize yourself here, it takes a long time. By the way, I don't know where your from, but if you ever crossed the border to Tijuana, Mexico you would cry over this forum. These people live in the slums, you have to feel for these people. I've been there seven times to paint a christian orpahange. The folks in America are so much more privileged, but we don't even know. What many of them are doing is not right crossing the border, but their just trying to get by, and it's hard when your poor. I'm not justifying what they do, but there in a terrible state to deal with.

Brazilians speak Portuguese, are not Hispanic and are not particularly easy to confuse with Mexicans. If you do some research, you'll find that Brazil is very ethnically diverse -- there are even Japanese Brazilians.

Hispanic=Persons of Mexican, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Central or South American, or other Spanish culture or origin, regardless of race.

I don't think it's veiled racism....it's more of frustration of illegals not registering.

Mexicans in L.A. for a long time? Should they be Americans by now?!

Uuuhmm, the issue IS illegal immigration, it just so happens that most of the illegal immigrants are coming in from Mexico. That's not being racist, that's just a fact. If a hispanic person in California is legal, hard working, and law abiding like everyone should be, then there's no problem. Stop being so sensitive and read the forums carefully.

You've just got to realize that this is a forum people come to to complain and vent their frustrations. The people that actually like California aren't thinking "oh I should go online and tell everyone how good this place is and if they don't like it... i'll defend it!" Hollywood already does a good job of making California look like a wonderland. Listen to Red Hot Chili Peppers, thats all they sing about is how great this place is.

There are people that will hate their situation no matter where they go and think that moving somewhere will suddenly make them happy. They come to sites like city-data.com to reinforce their hatred of where they live and look for greener grass.

I checked this site out to gather economic data since that what I study and just started b-s'ing with others about dilemmas, colloquialisms and facts about various cities across US. That should be the main reason for being on here. Don't ever let people's opinions on here influence your attitude toward a city you've even been to yourself. There's good in every place you go to you just have to find it for yourself. Like my favorite rapper too short says, "get in where you fit in."

I'm surprised copyguy and others can't discern and deduce P.O.V. from reading assorted posts, since that's such an important component of self-education on forums.

Fairweathergolfer writes intelligently indicating education; has asserted she agrees to disagree with occasional posts and posters, has mentioned where she lives (a very nice part of L.A.) all of which factor into discussions as follows: if someone intelligent, educated, tolerant and successfull enough to be living in a very nice place cannot make Los Angeles "work" for them, what the heck does that tell you about Los Angeles?

Yes, tone is important. All of them. And I'd like to see copyguy living in my tougher skin, paying off gangbangers not to steal your car when you can't find a parking lot near a job, removing graffiti from your block weekly, etc. etc. This is NOT part of middle class city life elsewhere you know.
