How did you do that? My 05's are $192. And on top of that it would be $40 in other states.

I actually did grow up in southern California, and we could barely breathe through the smog and had 3rd stage smog alerts, during which we were called off the playground at school and were not allowed outside to exercise at all. So for me, those restrictive environmental laws leads to the freedom to breathe purer air.

And I like the politics here. California is one of the most progressive states in the country.

I don't have a job that requires a commute anymore, and I'm driving against traffic. I hated driving for an hour to get from West L.A. to mid-Wilshire in the 1980s.....and there were far fewer people in L.A. then.

First post under LA didn't disappoint.

Completely off topic but I was listening to NPR and they mentioned how poor LA is very cyclists. Now that is a surprise.

Anyway take it easy out there.
For cyclists. Ooops...

I varies... I own many cars and most for a long time... $123 is the lowest so far... these were cars with registration under $40 at one time.

If Smog is required that could easily approach the $200 mark.

Other States have a one time collector license that is half or less than half of a California minimum annual fee... Last I checked a permanent Collector Plate in Oregon is $54

Besides... how many other States are still emission testing 43 year old Carburetor cars like mine and some with no factory CAT?

I had always kept a minimum for 24 cars licensed and insured... now all but 4 are non-op and trailered... or driven in parades... of course I maintain insurance on all.

California was the epicenter of car culture... but that has long ago faded.

How many states have registration that goes up instead of down? Only lovely Ca I imagine. I have a 2010 hybrid that went from 140.00 to 180.00 last year. And that dosn't include smog.

It went up in TN last year. I think about $2.00 and it is the same price regardless of the year of the car.

There was a study in one of the old car journals and California was at or near the bottom...

No fewer than 7 of my retired car friends moved to Oregon... and car friendly was the deciding factor... one has an early original Cobra... he said living in Oregon there was no sales tax on the 600k purchase and his license plate is as cheap as they come...

The others are Model A and T collectors... they can buy paint and supplies long ago banished in California...

Had I kept my cars registered for the road it would easily be over 5k and some of these cars I have owned since before I was old enough to drive... bought with money I earned going back to age 13.

Those who bought homes decades ago are now making huge profits, and they're cashing out. I don't blame them.

Better for them to cash out now because if there's another financial crisis like 2008, their home values would be close to nothing.

2008 was unprecedented and wont happen again. There will also never be worthless homes in Los Angeles, the weather and entertainment capital of the world.
