anybody think this is a good idea ?

Uber or Lyft riders may be paying more for their rides in the near future. The Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority is considering a plan that could tax ride-hailing drivers, most likely raising prices.
Metro's board is slated to vote Thursday on funding a study to look into a ride-hailing tax. Metro administrators say Transportation Network Companies (TNCc) are profiting off the roads and freeways but not paying their fair share to maintain them.
"In the use of that public infrastructure, they're causing more congestion and potentially increasing pollution and environmental degradation," said Joshua Schank, Metro's chief innovation officer.

Considering LA is the most congested city in the world without ride hailing. It only makes sense for ride hailing to be taxed.

Have you ever taken the metro. It’s the most screwed up system. My husband and I was let go early, we took the metro, then get caught not being to connect to the train from the end of the metro to the train to OC. It nearly took us 5-6 hours to get home. That’s why. Had we use Uber, we might be able to connect faster and got home sooner.

Yes I know, but we live in a OC. So they should make sure the connection system works with other county as well. Otherwise people get stuck. Whoever built it was definitely stupid.

Blame OC no one told them to split from LA County. There is the Metrolink though.

IMO this is not a good idea since it is more likely to push people to drive their own cars than switching to public transportation. Also it is likely to penalize people who depend on ride-sharing service such as people with disability or senior.

I do not know see people switching to public transportation. Metro been losing ridership every single year as they been adding more of it. It takes twice as long on metro as it's in a car to get anywhere. No way will people use public transportation.

Some routes can even take more than twice as much . They seem determined to “get people out of cars “ even if it’s not practical .
