Can marine radio transmissions be heard from West L.A.?

I know that NOAA weather channels can be heard from just about everywhere, but normally, once I left MDR or the Ventura Harbor, I had little interest in monitoring the marine channels. I would suspect it depends on the transmitter power and having a clear line-of-sight.
