Hello!

I am researching places/areas to live (apartments) in Los Angeles. I am a single female in my early 30's with a small dog. I will be working close to LAX. I wouldn't want my commute to be longer than 45 minutes (with traffic). Ideally, I'd like to be in an area that has grassy areas that I can walk my dog and has nearby restaurants and shopping within walking distance. My rent max is $3500/mo.

Does anyone have any recommendations on certain areas or apartment complexes that I should look into? Or areas to avoid?

El Segundo, Westchester, Playa Del Rey. $3500 is high for an apartment and will cover almost anything from Santa Monica to Redondo Beach. 45 minutes goes from Santa Monica to Redondo Beach with traffic.

What size apartment are you looking for?

I second these choices. They're all next to LAX ten minute commute tops. Playa del Ray has the lagoon and there's grass around it to walk your dog. It's literally right on the beach as well and very quiet still in LA city limits.

Westchester in LA city as well technically LAX is "in" Westchester it has numerous parks. There's tons of green space on Loyola Marymount smack dab in the middle to.

El Segundo is a beautiful town with many green spaces as well.

I would also look into Playa Vista right next to Westchester it's a beautiful clean, safe, new, and technologically advanced neighborhood. It also has plenty of green space, and all the amenities you'd expect.

I only need a one bedroom but I’d love to have one bedroom plus den or two bedroom.

You and your dog would love Santa Monica. And you can afford it. Look for a place near Palisades Park.

Yeah I’d live as close to work as possible. Playa Del Rey, Westchester, Mar Vista, El Segundo, maybe Manhattan Beach or Culver City. No reason to live any further away unless you want to live by the water. The beach by Playa Del rey isn’t great and MB is very expensive so you may want to consider the other South Bay beaches, but your commute will be worse.

What's wrong with it? I've been numerous times, doesn't seem too bad...

OP, I can't add a whole lot to what others have already listed (apart from maybe look at the Palos Verdes peninsula), but do keep in mind your own noise (and smell) tolerance. The closer you are to LAX, the noisier it will be (obviously) and the stronger the smell of kerosene. I love planes and have stayed in El Segundo when visiting L.A. for the proximity of runway views, but, depending on which way the wind is blowing, the air quality does tend to suffer.
