Get real. It's obvious that most scooter riders are zipping around for fun, not to get anywhere.

As you have been told for years, "safety" is no excuse. There are plenty of safe, legal ways to get around.
I guess we should ban the sell or importation of bicycles or scooters in the state completely. So people can use the more legal way of transport such as a motor vehicle.

Though its not illegal to ride a bicycle on the sidewalks in CA as long as there is no running motor either of gas or electricity on.

I'm sick of this whiny excuse from bicyclists/scooter riders, "Wah, wah, it's too dangerous to ride in the streets."

Hey, no one is forcing you to ride a scooter anywhere.

Walk. Take a bus or a taxi. Drive a car. There are many safe ways to obey the law.
.... or there is ~*~*~No ExCuSe~*~*~ for the city to not have quality infrastructure (aka bike lanes) on our major thoroughfares when there is clearly a demand and need for it? Leave the concern of us obeying the law to law enforcement. If anything, this should be a unifying issue for pedestrians and scooter riders as this only highlights how unsafe streets are for everyone who isn't in a vehicle.

Why not require a mandatory safety class or certification for these scooters..considering the serious injuries people are receiving.

But I'm sure the scooter companies wouldn't like that. It seems crazy that the city did a deal with these scooter companies to allow them, makes you wonder if kickbacks were involved. Maybe it'll come up in the FBI investigation of City Hall.

"the rapid spread of motorized scooters has been accompanied by a rising number of injuries to both riders and pedestrians. Here in Los Angeles, we’re at one of the epicenters of the electric scooter phenomenon. That means local emergency rooms and medical practices, ours included, are now seeing a spike in scooter-related injuries, many of them serious."

Mandatory safety classes? That would defeat the purpose. Basically tourist woudn't be able to use it etc. This is the craziest idea ever.

Woops, the answer is yes. Generally, you get a message both when you unlock a scooter, and also when you initially enter in your license + payment info.

Electric scooters? You mean, like mopeds? They were designed to be used in areas with parks, where they'd be away from sidewalk pedestrians and major streets. Side streets and parks is where I've seen them in Europe.
