LA Posters: I'm not in your area, but I read a small blurb in Time magazine that LA has become the doughnut capital of the US. This article attributes this to Cambodian immigrants in the LA area and their entrepreneurial spirit.

Have any of you found this to be true? I love hearing tales of successful immigrants and that the US can still attract people who are seeking a better life for themselves.

Can confirm there's lots of donuts. Cannot confirm the Cambodians.

Definitely a lot of donut shops run by Cambodians. And there are tons of donut shops at least in the greater LA area.

Kudos to them for escaping genocide in their homeland to come to the U.S. with probably little to no English skills and using their entrepreneurial spirit and tenacious work ethic to succeed in this country. Talk about overcoming the odds.

The immigrant mentality is certainly to be praised.

I definitely can confirm this my local donut shop is owned by Cambodians once I learned that I've started to see it everywhere.

I went to college with a girl whose family was Cambodian and they owned a donut shop..not in L.A but out in Banning.

I remember reading an article years ago about Cambodians in the donut business and how they help each other out, was interesting.

Not really on topic.....but there is a really interesting documentary about the history of Chinese American restaurants.

There are many. many shops in the LA area, but I am of the opinion, people living in LA don't know what a "real" doughnut is.
Every shop in this city, perhaps state, use a pre mixed flout / vanilla flavor combination, that for the most part is tasteless.

I was born and raised in New England, and when I was much younger, the doughnuts all had a distinctive flavor, and were NEVER filled with some make believe fruit flavored paste crap, like is in use today.

Back then, if you ordered a strawberry filled jelly doughnut, it was actually filled with strawberry preserves, same for raspberry, and blueberry filling.
Chocolate was actually real chocolate added to the flour mix.
As for plain doughnuts, they were thick, and had a nice crunch to them, unlike what is being sold in shops here in LA.
I don't frequent doughnut shops here , because I really don't consider them doughnuts.
They are nothing more than mass produced, bland, fake flavoring, garbage.

Bob.

Never heard of this before. Sounds made up, like Jeff Gordon winning the Winston Million at Darlington back in 1997 even though he should have been black flagged for aggression against Jeff Burton.

What the hell is with you.
Your post has nothing to do with the subject of the post.

We all understand you have this crazed unnatural fantasy about race car drivers, but leave that to the sporting forums, or love and relationship forums.
