Default area with best air quality in greater LA area

I am looking to move to SoCal sometime this year, but even with the research I've done am still looking for more info. I get conflicting opinions on best areas to live, air quality, etc.

One thing I know is that LA's air is the worst in the nation. I have severe asthma so one of my concerns is finding an area with the least amount of polution. How does Orange County compare to LA? What about Ventura County? Can someone give me some info on where to stay if I want to avoid the ER?

And about how far of a drive is it from OC to LA, Venture to LA, etc. I haven't looked at any jobs yet but will start once I get an idea of where I want to be.

Also, can one person live easily on 65k yearly if renting?

I appreciate any advice.

Orange and Ventura Counties are defined by their coastal proximities, therefor they have ocean breezes tempering the smog away and better air quality. Someone with severe asthma should not be outside, particularly during summer days, in most areas 10 miles inland in L.A., which include San Bernardino, Pasadena and the San Gabriel areas, Pomona, East L.A. and Riverside county.
