On Thursday, December 19, at 7:00 am, the Los Angeles City Planning Commission will be considering a restrictive ordinance that will essentially ban vacation rentals in Los Angeles. They want to limit operation of a vacation rental to 30 days max per year. They also want to severely restrict the total number of vacation rentals permitted in each neighborhood. It will happen unless hosts show up to fight it. When: Thursday, December 19th @ 7:00am (Please arrive early if you can. The Airbnb team will be onsite starting at 7am. To get a seat, please arrive no later than 7:30am) Where: Los Angeles City Hall Room 340 - 201 N. Main Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012

So many elderly or single parent (females mainly) families will suffer because of this. Very unfortunate

I can understand not allow certain areas for Airbnb. But if somebody literally owns a house then they should be able to do what they want. I've used Airnbs about 7 times while visiting there. Take that away I will no longer come to visit. So that's thousands of $'s I will know longer put into that economy and I'm sure I won't be the only one.

I did not know that so many elderly and single parents used AirBNB.

Last I heard the LA area has lots of places to stay in real hotels. How does it affect people if they can't get a room in someones house?

AirBnBs are generally cheaper to stay in. Plus I feel like you can customize your stay a little more. There are AirBnBs in the hills that are really popular and cheaper than staying at some hotels of similar value down in the basin. Or the rented condos on the beach where the California Coastal Commission as essentially outlawed highrise hotels. There are definitely more neighborhoods to choose to visit in using AirBnB than hotels. The reviews are generally more accurate too, especially for the superhosts.

This mirrors the many protests from traditional taxi drivers who took place around the world to ban Uber. To me, this sounds like an attempt against enterpreneurship freedom and promotion of monopoly.

They use airbnb by being hosts to supplement their income.
Over the past 3 years I've lived in Beverly hills, West Hollywood, East Hollywood, Venice, Santa monica, Brentwood, Malibu and Manhattan beach using airbnb. I could have never done this on my own and if staying in a hotel was the other option I would have left 35 months ago!
Fortunately for me now I've made so many contacts I won't need airbnb any longer. For the next guy it'll never happen if they're on my budget

Who cares, there are like 100 other cities outside of LA city they can stay and have their money spent there. LA isn't the only city. Plus who the f--- wants more transplants in their neighborhoods bringing more traffic. Keep these strangers in hotels on the main roads not on residential areas where they party not knowing of the noise ordinances, or people doing porn shoots, do doing drugs in someone elses home. Keep those people in other cities, not in LA. Go to Malibu city or Manhattan Beach or Huntington Beach or Whittier or even Compton or Inglewood. Plenty of cities to choose from.

You have lived here for 35 months in short term rentals (via Airbnb)? That doesn't make sense. Far more affordable to get longer term housing.

The City's regulations do not prevent hosts who live in their units for 6 months or longer per year from renting out their units for short term stays with two options:

1. Pay a nominal registration fee ($89) and you can do short term rentals for up cap of 120 days per year;
2. Pay a larger fee ($850) and you can rent out your primary residence for an unlimited days (providing you also live there for 6 months or more);

^That gives elderly or others the ability to supplement their income while balancing out the desires of other neighborhood residents who don't want to live next to a rogue hotel.

Though rent stabilized units are not allowed which I would change subject to the same restrictions above.
