All this talk about temperature is silly. The temperatures in the San Fernando Valley differ only by several degrees depending on location within the valley, and everything is air conditioned anyway so what do you care about the few minutes between car and apartment? And besides, it's only hot about 20-30 days a year. The rest of the year you won't even notice the temperature, and in the winter you won't notice the winter.

Woodland Hills is one of the nicest parts of the Valley. You'll love it there unless you were born with a gold spoon in your mouth. The only better areas in Los Angeles are up in the hills themselves, Hollywood Hills, Beverly Hills, etc. or at the beaches which are also $$$ like the hills.

Woodland Hills is great place to live. I'll help you find a place if you need help. West Hills is also good.

Porn, drugs, and rock roll . That's what where all about in the SFV. We have anything you want from A-Z if you have the green.

Ok maybe not, but I couldn't resist being silly.

Woodlands Hills is a great place to live. Schools, medical facilities, shopping, parks, theaters, restaurants and more provide plenty of close entertainment. The 101 freeway is close to provide a get away to anything LA has to offer. I wouldn't mind living there at all.

The reason the valley, in general, gets hot is because...well...it's a valley. The mountains suck up all that cool air, and the Santa Anna winds blow across the valley from the hot deserts. Add some pollution--and there will be days when you can't see the north or east mountain ranges--and you get hot temperatures. Winter and Spring are my personal favorites, and the summer is not that bad with AC, beach, and/or pool.

I don't think this is correct.

The mountains don't suck up cool air.

It is hot during the Santa Ana wind [a misnomer presumably from Santana or "Devil Winds", see below] conditions because of heating by compression.
Santa Ana winds may get their name from the Santa Ana Mountains in Orange County, the Santa Ana River or Santa Ana Canyon, along which the winds are particularly strong. There are also claims that the original form is Santana winds, from the Spanish vientos de Satán ("winds of Satan", Sanatanas being a rarer form of Satanás), and that this, in turn, is a translation of a native name in some unspecified language.[citation needed]
According to the Los Angeles Almanac: "The original spelling of the name of the winds is unclear, not to mention the origin. The name Santana Winds is said to be traced to Spanish California, when the winds were called devil winds due to their heat. The reference book Los Angeles A to Z (by Leonard & Dale Pitt), credits the Santa Ana Canyon in Orange County as the origin of the name Santa Ana Winds, thereby arguing for the term Santa Anas. This might be supported by early accounts which attributed the Santa Ana Riverbed running through the canyon as the source of the winds. Another account placed the origin of Santa Ana winds with an Associated Press correspondent stationed in Santa Ana who mistakenly began using Santa Ana winds instead of Santana winds in a 1901 dispatch."
"The air from the high desert is initially relatively dense owing to its coolness and aridity, and thus tends to channel down the valleys and canyons in gusts which can attain hurricane force at times. As it descends, the air not only becomes drier, but also warms adiabatically by compression. The southern California coastal region gets some of its hottest weather of the year during autumn while Santa Ana winds are blowing. During Santa Ana conditions it is typically hotter along the coast than in the deserts."

Warner Center is a great area for singles with lots of private townhome and condo rentals as well as apartments. Private rentals in Warner Woodlands around Erwin and Owensmouth could be less than some apartments with more privacy. There is also Warner Pines which is across the street from Woodland Hills Promenade and down the block from several restaurants, movies, a large park that has concerts in the summer if you can take the heat, tons of stores and very close to the freeway. It's a great walking town as everything is very accessible.

I know there is some element of kidding to your post, but just for the record:

It is a well known fact that the San Fernando Valley is the capital of the porn industry. It is situated near the legitimate film capital, Hollywood, and with a population approaching 2 million that must mean there's perhaps 500,000 homes available for the private film shoots. People could be shooting porn films right across the street from you and you'd never know it. That's why the films are shot in SFV: it's near the film resources of Hollywood and there's countless choices of private homes where the films can be shot in private.

What it means for residents is that they'll never see anything related to the porn industry, and I've never seen anything in over 30 years. It's all behind closed doors.

As far as drugs, it's the same as any suburban area anywhere in the nation. I expect hard core drug use is far worse in the other badder parts of Los Angeles. In SFV most drug use is also behind closed doors.

Rock and roll? Well we're near Hollywood which is also arguably the capital of the music industry. And anyway, rock and roll is good, right?

Charles is correct. The mountains do not suck up the cool air.

1. Air flowing over the mountains is compressed which heats the air and causes the hot Santa Ana winds.

2. Air in the desert is hotter than air over the ocean (duh!) so air flowing from the desert to the SFV makes it hotter. Air flowing from the ocean to the SFV makes it cooler.

3. The Hollywood Hills tend to block ocean air unless the air currents are strong enough to flow over the hills. For this reason the SFV is usually hotter than Santa Monica, because the cool ocean air is blocked by the hills.

I lived in Woodland Hills for two years and loved it for the most part - everything restaurant and store-wise is right there. We moved to another spot in the Valley and are in W. Hills every weekend for one reason or another. The mall is great and there are about 4 Targets in about a 3-mile radius. The traffic is awful, though, as you can imagine.

Yep, the summer heat can be stifling, but I don't think it is much different than other parts of the Valley - maybe a few degrees. The best part is that you are fairly close to Malibu, you just have to drive through Topanga Canyon and down to the beach and it wil be MUCH cooler. We do that all the time in the summer.

If you are single, you may like living in Oakwood Woodland Hills. They have corporate housing, a pool, hot tub and lots of (what I think are lame) social activities and mixers. We lived there for two years and I hated the "summer camp" vibe but if you are alone you might like it. Expect to pay at least $1500 for a one-bedroom apt. in the area. We took a tour of Warner Pines Apt. and it was really run-down for the price.

That is so true. I'll never understand why the home office decided to put them so close together. There is also 2 Home Depots and 2 Macys as well.

OP, just north of me in Woodland Hills there is a huge secured apartment complex on Shoup and Oxnard that seems nice. Dont know the name of it but I see people jogging and walking their dogs around it all the time.
