Default Moving to Woodland Hills

Say I have a job offer in Woodland Hills, CA for upper $60,000's. Where would be a good place to live in this vicinity that isn't too crazy expensive or dangerous. I understand the limitations of LA in this regard, but I don't wanna have gangs/drug dealers right outside my door if possible.

Thanks!

Default Woodland Hills

You could easily afford to find rent on a salary of 60k. Most of the apartments are usually 1br-3br apartments/townhomes.

Most 1br's will probably range from the 1000-1400 area. Not that bad. I found many on Craigslist in that price range. Just research through all the los angeles rental sights(craigslist,westsiderentals,rent.com..etc.) to get an idea. If you have the ability to research in person, you could probably find even better deals.

Woodland Hills is a perfect location to live and work. You got pretty much anything you need in the vicinity. It's a perfect place to use a bike if you need to cut on gas prices also. Very safe. You could walk late at night and be perfectly fine.

It's perfect except for one thing - it's the hottest spot in the entire Valley in the summer. If it's 100 degrees in Burbank, it'll be 105-110 in Woodland Hills easily. It got up to 119 degrees there once a couple of years ago (while it was "only" 113 in Burbank!). Other than that, though, it is a nice place to live.

what is it about the geographic position of woodland hills that causes the temperature there to climb above that of the rest of the valley? just curious.

The gas required to live in a cooler place will cost much more than the electricity needed to run an air conditioner in Woodland Hills. The closest cooler places are the beach (Topanga, Malibu, Palisades) or Camarillo.

I think electricity is still, what, about $0.15 - $0.20 per kilowatt-hour? Gas is thisclose to $4.00 per gallon.

OMG, it is terribly hot in the summer. If it werent for my pool I would not live here. I'd rent my house out to someone else. I have no idea why it gets so hot here.

Yea. The heat is terrible in Woodland Hills during the summer. I was living in canoga park when it was 119 degrees. The AC barely did anything against the heat that day. I got sick of it and went to Santa Monica.

I think the reason why it gets so hot is because of it's location next the Santa Monica Mts. It's all tucked in the corner. No breeze passes through.
or
maybe the porn industry has something to do with it.
