i wonder if people are much more germaphobic and mindful these days

it was just yesterday that people would lick their fingers and then touch the common utensils at a buffet, and sneeze directly on the food.

and K-12 schools never taught squat about hygiene

the only people who ever receive training on cross contamination are healthcare workers.
I heard that buffets were going out of business before the virus infected humans. Meat and unhealthy eating in general have been losing their appeal.

Just think of the sky-high levels of sodium in the food at most buffet restaurants.

When did America’s heart turn cold on buffet chains?

... In 2016, Eater’s Dana Hatic blamed the fall of the buffet on America’s “newfound focus on fast casual dining [and] farm-to-table menus,” as well as “widespread attention on the health effects of obesity and overconsumption.”...

My father-in-law (now deceased) loved Sizzler and Souplantation and often wanted to go there for birthdays and other occasions. Honestly, I've always thought these buffets were kind of gross and not worth the price and I think a lot of young(ish) people would agree.

Maybe buffets were doomed, but "flattening" needs to kill as few businesses as possible (generous temporary financial assistance, probably).

When I saw a woman, at the buffet at a local Ralph's, lick the chicken sauce off her fingers and then pick up the tongs again, I decided I was done with buffets.

The Soup Plantation in Porter Ranch is a big place and most of the time full. A real money maker it looks like.

I was thinking more of the local Chinese buffet, Indian buffet and occasional Mexican buffet and of course the Las Vegas buffets; the only reason I go to LV.

I haven't seen any of them drop in business pre-Covid.
