If you're going to be working in Manhattan Beach, shoot for Santa Monica (PM me if you'd like specific neighborhoods to look into), Brentwood, etc. I wouldn't go for hollywood.

You're okay with an hour commute? No thanks.

curt schultz is on a distinguished road
I am a Realtor and find a lot of young (hip) professionals in Pasadena. It's close to LA but not too crowded. Old town Pasadena is awesome too.

What profession are you in?

The reality is first find a place to live that's convenient for your daily commuting & palatable to your budget. Then drive to where ever the networking "happens".

I'll echo Manhattan Beach, or possibly any of the beach towns right around there. No sense in taking on a long commute when you're working somewhere that already has what you want.

I wouldn't bother with Miracle Mile, Hollywood, West Hollywood, Los Feliz, Pasadena, etc.; save your self the commuting hassles and just visit those places on the weekends.
