From http://www.morganquitno.com/cit07pop.htm#25, the 25 most dangerous cities in the US (I've put the California cities in caps)
1. St. Louis
2. Detroit
3. Flint
4. COMPTON
5. Camden
6. Birmingham (Alabama, not Michigan)
7. Cleveland
8. OAKLAND
9. Youngstown
10. Gary
11. RICHMOND
12. Baltimore
13. Memphis
14. Trenton
15. Richmond, VA
16. Kansas City
17. Atlanta
18. Cincinnati
19. DC
20. North Charleston
21. Reading
22. Newark
23. Little Rock
24. SAN BERNARDINO
25. Orlando
Compton is the most dangerous small city in the US, according to that website.

i never take these most dangerous list as fully accurate as there is noway to actually measure crime and murder precisely. as a resident of california im familiar with the cities on the list. im a native of oakland but have been all over the state. the most dangerous places in california in no particular order are west and east oakland or the flats like we call'em around here. north richmond, hunters point, east palo alto, in south california i have spent considerable time enough to judge that san benardino, watts in los angeles, compton did not look like a rough place to me in most areas but its a place that does not give off good vibes to say any thing of the least. out of the most in southern california i would have to say san berdo and watts take the cake as the ugliest/dangerous places. thats just my 2 cents.

San Bernardino, CA

Compton, CA

Other non CA cities:
East St. Louis

Murders per 100,000 = 63.4
Detroit, MI
2005
Murders per 100,000 = 37.2
Camden, NJ
2005
Murders per 100,000 = 41.3
(stats taken directly from this website). As you can see, Compton has the highest rate, higher than East St louis, Camden, Detroit, and all other CA cities.

You are wrong, these stats are 2005, The Inland Empire's crime rate is going up faster than anywhere else in CA
Riverside, San Bernardino, And Ontario's crime rates are going up faster every year

On the San Francisco forum, someone had a good point. California really isn't that bad. If you look at a lot of cities in the Midwest, they are far worse. Not only is the crime rate high, but the entire place is just run down. Many people always talk about Los Angeles being so bad. There are some bad areas, but as a whole it not terrible. Every large city will have crime. Cities in the Midwest are far worse. St Louis, Detriot, Flint, Gary, Cleveland, etc. The list goes on. Those cities are a complete mess. Even here in Milwaukee, crime is increasing rapidly.
Just think of all of the people moving out to the West Coast. There is definitely a reason why people want to leave the larger Midwestern cities. People visit Los Angeles all of the time for vacation. Who would want to come to Detroit or St Louis?
One reason that I think people are like this is because CA isn't as old. Crime started increasing in LA and people thought that is was terrible. It eventually got as bad as other large cities. People weren't used to the crime so they think its much worse than it is. If you look in the other forums on here, there isn't even close to as much talk about how bad their city is because of crime as there is on here.
