Maybe for a tourist staying in one place, it's not bad. Did you leave Hollywood when you were visiting? Most people don't just live in Hollywood and stay within the same few blocks...that is why people say the public transportation isn't that great.

Most people in LA find it extremely difficult to get to where they need to go on a daily and weekly basis by using public transportation. If this wasn't true more Angelenos would use public transportation. However, LA wasn't designed to be public transit friendly.

You will survive. Plenty of people do. It's just most people in L.A. don't WANT to live without a car

I don't think this poster is even asking if he/she needs a car...it was just a comment, and there are plenty of posts on this same subject.
