buddy004 is on a distinguished road
My landlord is trying to raise my rent by 10% starting in Aug. Is that the increase now. I thought is was 5% as of last July.

It was 5% for July 1, '07 through June 30, '08. As of July 1, '08 the rent increase is 3% through June 30, '09.

If you apartment is under rent control with the City of Los Angeles, then the rent can only be increased 3% in August. If your apartment building was built after October, 1978, it doesn't fall under rent control, and they can raise it as much as they want. If they raise it more than 10% in a year, they have to give you 60 days' notice by state law.
