Try the South Bay cities(Torrance) or the Pasadena area (San Gabriel Valley)

Abolutely. Try iTechMLS, and enter your parameters under "find properties". I just did a search there for you, and found several 4-bedrooms in Pasadena, Alhambra, and Whittier. All decent places and maybe 45-ish from downtown... you'd have to check each address.

Enjoy!

You should be able to rent a home with those parameters in good areas on the west side. Check out the Remax website as well.

I found a 5 bedroom 4.5 bathroom home located in Noth El Monte bordering Arcadia which is a very nice neighborhood. It was listed in californamoves.com two weeks ago but I can't seem to find it now. It's brand new and built in 2007, never lived in. It's in a gated community with 4 other homes of the same size and built together. It is listed as over 2800 sq ft and for rent at $2800. I guess the owner is an investor and now that the market is weaker probably wants to rent it out. I recall it was close to the Los Angeles street exit off the 605fwy. That's got to be about a 15min drive to LA without traffic, with traffic maybe 25min. Really depends when you go to work.

Try craigslist: los angeles classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events or Free Los Angeles and Orange County Classifieds - Recycler or Apartment Rentals in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego ($60) for the list. For a house that size, you may want to check with a realtor. If a house has been on the market for some time, they may consider renting it.
