Very nice post Dwimmerlaik, and I agree with every part of it. It's good advice!

A friend of mine rented a 3b/3b two stroy condo near Ventura and White Oak a couple of years ago for $3,500/month, I'm pretty sure you could rent a huge house in CC for that, heck you may even be able to get a house in Valencia

Well, Ventura and White Oak is Tarzana... But anyway, actually I'd rather live in Valencia because so much of it is new or nearly new. I like new.

I agree that it's all new, but it looks so tacky with all those cookie cutter subdivisions. And no, Ventura and White Oak is Encino.

Encino, Tarzana, BFD. Be honest, those areas along Ventura Blvd. all look the same, right? They're all nice, all the way from Studio City to Woodland Hills. Even though I've lived here my whole life I forget the exact dividing lines because they mean nothing to anybody except the mail man.
You are right though, and I should have remembered because I lived on Burbank Blvd. just east of White Oak... in Encino.

Not entirely true = meaning nothing except to the mailman. It means a great deal if you own property there. Studio City and Encino = very good addresses to have; Sherman Oaks and Tarzana = good addresses to have. It could mean another $100,000 to $300,000 or more if you plan on selling your home.

Well I was a renter then. Actually I live in a part of Northridge more resembling Van Nuys and Reseda, and my house is worth more simply because I have a Northridge postmark. Okay actually my neighborhood is just slightly better kept than Reseda or Van Nuys.

Agree with you, DaBeez. I've also found that in the Valley people fudge quite a bit -- west Van Nuys residents say that they live in Reseda. Depending on which part of Canoga Park people live, they'll call West Hills or Chatsworth home, and so on. This phenomenon in the Valley always amused me a bit!

Aw BS. Where you live shows up on every piece of mail you receive. In all my years here I've never heard that. On the other hand, it's not that obvious which "town" you're in. We're all in one town anyway: San Fernando Valley. Distinct from Santa Monica, from Hollywood, from downtown. There isn't that much difference between VN, Reseda, etc.

I've never heard anyone that lives in Van Nuys say they live in Van Nuys. Its ALWAYS Sherman Oaks if they can anyway rationalize that Burbank Blvd isnt THAT far south from them.

Most of the San Fernando Valley is the City of Los Angeles. I don't think the postal people even looks at the city of city, state; They just look at the zip. It's the Canoga Park district of the City of Los Angeles, for example.
