I've never lived there but heard so much bad things about Hawaiian Gardens. I've had to transfer buses and the area doesn't give me a comfortable vibe in terms of safety. Usually places that have these mega casinos usually have issues with crime.

Hawaiian Gardens is one of the cities in LA County I would never recommend to anybody.

There's no reason to live here if you can afford to as it's surrounded by nice areas on all sides. You've got Lakewood, Cerritos, La Palma, Cypress, the good parts of Long Beach, etc.

I find it interesting that Hawaiian Gardens borders one of the nicer, pricier areas of Long Beach. My uncle and his wife lived there (El Dorado Park Estates in Long Beach) from 1972 until they sold their house in the fall of 2007 and moved to Tampa, Florida.

A long time ago, there was some kind of controversy about how the residents of east Long Beach wanted to block off a side road to keep out the "undesirable element" of Hawaiian Gardens. Of course, the Hawaiian Gardens residents were accusing the Long Beach residents of discrimination (Hawaiian Gardens is about 77% Hispanic). The Long Beach residents denied that charge and said that blocking the road was for "traffic safety purposes." The streets involved were Pioneer Boulevard in Hawaiians Gardens connecting to Claremore Avenue in Long Beach. I'm not sure if the two cities ever reached any kind of amicable resolution.
