Oakwood might be a good option. However, this option might cause you to make two moves. One move into Oakwood, while you keep all of your furniture in storage, and another move into the apartment you select. I think you might be able to find another way to just make one move without renting a hotel or temporary apartment.

Use apartments.com, while you are in Kansas, to find an apartment in the area of town here in LA that you want to move to and correspond with the apartment manager or rental company by fax or come into LA and sign the paperwork a couple of weeks before you move all your furniture back here, if I am understanding your question correctly.

While I was living in San Diego, I used apartments.com to find my first apartment in LA. The rental company was fine with holding the unit I wanted to rent as soon as I sent them a deposit.

Otherwise go to the Craigslist link the CESpeed said. Then look at the temporary places. You might be able to find a place to stay at for a month while you look for another place. It's pretty much just another way to do what laysayfair.
