Default Long Beach apt input for Ohian

Hi folks,

I'm moving this summer to LB from Ohio and have learned soo much about the place from this forum! This is soo helpful!

Anyway, I'm now apartment hunting but can't go over to look at the places in person because i'm under training. I know the zipcodes to stay away from but am confused about downtown 4th street - should I avoid 4th St or only beyond it? How is street parking like there?

Thing is, I found a 1B place there for $925 at E 4th St & Nebraska Ave (bout 5 blocks west of Cherry Ave), but I have to wait for a parking spot for like 1-2 months. I'll be having erratic work hours at a nearby hospital - so i wanna be safe when i get to my car for work and home in the wee morning hours! I'm a single female, short and can only afford rent <1K.

Any feedback on this would be greatly appreciated! Thanks everyone!

thank you thank you. I feel a bit better about it.

I saw a streetview of it on google - there's a couple of stores down the block with bars on the windows/doors.. is that common in LB? Most of the apartments/houses along the block don't have bars though. Where I'm from, places with bars on their windows usually mean the hood. Is that the same in LB?
