Your situation is not limited to the San Fernando Valley.
I have a relative in the brentwood area of west la, right off wilshire blvd, who's common area-condo garage has been broken into over 7 times. They would either smash a window and steal from one of the owners cars or break into the storage rooms using a prybar. Once they find a successful bldg, they generally return until preventative measures are taken. I don't buy into the idea of having nothing nice or worth any value to avoid theft. You just need to be concious of valuables and where you keep them. fwiw, I keep the insurance card in my wallet and leave the registation at home. If a cop wants to check my registration, he can run my Plate or VIN #. |

You did leave your doors unlocked....it was likely someone local like another poster said. One of the nice things about driving the crappy car I drive is that no one thinks to steal it.

Actually, crappy cars can fetch a decent sum of money on the black market. After they're stolen, the cars are stripped down and the parts sold off. Parts on older cars aren't so easy (or cheap) to come by so they're more valuable than you think.
Not to mention, it's probably going to be easier stealing a POS F-150 than a brand new Porsche 911. |

the thing about crappy cars is that they get stolen not for their price but for their utility.
im a cop magnet and they like to pull me over, dont ask. most of the time its becasue a "grey/blue older model corolla/honda was seen leaving the scene of a crime." thugs steal lil beat up cars to do dirt. you jack it, rob the 7-11 in your new getaway car and then you ditch it. of course this aint never happened to me, but thats been the excuse cops have given for pulling me over. its good to have a clinker, but sometimes its not. as for parts... flashier cars are defintely the deal. while some people steal the hub caps of mustangs or lights of certain cars, the big bucks are in the flashier more expensive cars. at least in LA |

My boyfriend went to my car to get something and forgot to lock the door. I don't have an alarm but my car isn't something one would want to steal however the stuff inside obviously was. Did you call the DMV about your car registration being stolen? I would do that just as a precaution. Sorry for your loss. |

It happens everywhere, not just the Valley.
There is no area which has had no crime at all. |

I grew up in the valley, and it sure has changed. I would never in a million years move back there to northern Mexico.. oops... I mean L.A. county.

Of course it can happened anywhere in the city, especially South or East LA. I heard that the Valley was the most racist.
