We are going on holiday to california and we will arrive and depart from Los Angeles. We will have to rent a car (me and my friend, I'm 21, she is 20) but are looking for the cheapest way to do so. It seems we have to forget about both being allowed to drive, that will probably be way to expensive.

Are there any rentals out there in Los Angeles that won't charge an extra fee for those who are 21 years old?

Do you have any tips on how to do this the cheapest way?

Thanx in advance!

(ow btw, we also want to go to las vegas)

Maybe it's changed, but it used to be you had to be 25 y/o to rent a car.

I just checked with Hertz and they say the following:
Quote:
Question: What is the minimum age I can rent a car with Hertz?

Answer: On most rentals the minimum age is 25 without an additional Age Differential Charge, and 21 with an additional Age Differential Charge. However, the minimum age for the Hertz Prestige Collection (HPC) has a minimum age of 25 to rent.

All states except New York, age 21-24

Economy Car, Compact Car, Intermediate Car, Standard Car, Fullsize Car, Intermediate Sport, Economy Special, Fullsize Sport USD 27.00 per day

Other Car Classes (some models excluded) USD 37.00 per day

It has been my experience that matters of this sort are usually the same irrespective of which specific company you do business with. The pressure of competition tends to make them all use the same terms.

Just got back from LA. Enterprise was the cheapest for us; both under 24... We had it for 7 days and it cost us 270 orsomething like that.

Enterprise charges an "Under 25 fee" which ranges from $15-25 per day. I believe most rental companies to this. Very expensive.
