Default What Part of Downtown Los Angeles is Best to Live in?

Ok, from reading this forum and from other people, I know that d-town isn't that great overall, compared to other areas of the city. But if I were to get an apt. downtown, what part would be safest and best to live in for a single guy in his 20s? Apparently downtown area has like 15 diff. districts, so I was just wondering which of those would be the best to live in.

Why do you want to live downtown? Work or school? What is your budget? What makes a neighborhood good in your scheme of things? Low crime? Plenty to do? Variety of places of worship? Happening nightlife? Proximity to work? Pretty surroundings?

Your answers to these questions will help others know what to tell you.

There are some VERY nice places around Union Station it's also very safe there. Don't go around San Pedro .. Chinatown also has some nice places.. and by the Staples Center there are some nice places .. by "places" I mean apartments/condos

There is a very nice area also if you go down by Spring/Temple by the big Catholic church .. then drive down Temple and turn left I think it is by where the water district is with big colored fountains .. where the Disney theatre is .. and there is a plaza.. there are some nice condos .. sorry I can't remember the street name

a friend of mine has a loft in historic downtown or old town district or whatever its called. decent enough during the day, but kinda freaky at night being in an urban area with little traffic

i have another friend that has a studio in the little tokyo lofts off east 4th st and san pedro. just outside of downtown, but you have a secure parking structure with guards and a secure complex. better than some of the other places around downtown la
