Pomona is technically located at the bottom of a giant toilet. Do you want to be in a toilet?

Yes, Pomona has been crime ridden as long as I can remember. I used to skateboard at Pomona Pipe and Pool daily which was right in the middle of the crap. "Cops" has a lot of episodes filmed in Pomona....

you are too funny!
but humor aside, I agree. No one I've met is proud of living in Pomona. True you can find "safe enough" places in most cities but wouldn't you rather be in a city where MOST OF IT is safe and not just SOME parts of it??
If you don't mind the heat and far-away-from-everthing places like Pomona then you should check out Santa Clarita or even Ventura County instead. Same hot weather and long distances from LA/work/civilization but at least they are -safer-.
Too bad we can't all be made of dough and live in Pacific Palisades. Laugh. Oh well.

Pomona, not so good. Best have some guns and know how to use them. Was a decent area in the 70's and early 80's. Beyond that it is now closer to Tijuana than it is to the California dreaming type of California...IF you are looking at hoses online, beware they don't dare show anything of the neighborhoods because they don't want to scare away a buyer. Pomona is a gang town. I mean most are, some more so than others. But Pomona I would avoid...

Overreactions on both sides, but as a general rule Pomona is one of the lesser cities in the east San Garbriel/west Inland Empire area. Much of the housing stock has good bones but hasn't been kept up as well as places in similar first-ring suburbs. Diamond Ranch is a fairly new high school, and there are plenty of freeways to get around, but adjacent areas such as Upland and Diamond Bar are better bets.

I just moved to Pomona for school and its great!! so much to do. You got the famous glass house, a growing arts colony, and a hip vibe all around.

Let's see how your lungs do in the next few years. One of the smoggiest places in the country. I wonder where you moved from if you think Pomona is so great? But hey, different strokes, right?

I know how you feel. I spent about 40 years living more in the east side of Los Angeles: Eagle Rock, Pasa, Arcadia, Temple City and Glendora. We did live in the southwest part (before the days of rioting, etc) and we although the areas we lived in were not considered high crime they were overlooked many times. I remember reading review on top of review in the Times about tourism, restaurants, etc and everyting discussed or reviewed was west side, even homes in the home section would be discussed as if only the westside existed.
Now, as for Pamona, yes, they do have some nice sections and some very nice homes, but it does have a high crime rate as well. Pretty much, like anyplace you have to be careful where you go and how you handle yourself. If I were buying a home, Pamona would not be on my list and it has not had a great reputation for many years, even in the 70s there were problems, but I would not be afraid to shop, eat or spend some time in the city. It certainly isn't the worse place in L.A. county.

that wasn't the question!!! OP asked about crime and safety, no one asked for a lecture on smog. That is a totally different topic. by the way, most kids going to Cal Poly are pretty satisfied with the school and the area surrounding it.

The Cal Poly area & Philips Ranch are quite nice and safe. Diamond Ranch is in the school district and that is one of the better high schools in Socal.
I can't say much about the rest of Pomona, however. I do know that there are many exagerrations on how bad it actually is being posted here.
