Default Your opinion needed in moving to LA

Okay, so I am sure these topics has been covered many times but please bear with my questions.
I’ve been living in the Bay Area all my live (SF) but have been in San Diego for the past year now.
Not a big fan of SD and really don’t care for it. Kinda boring for me and what I like to do and well
The people are well just not for me. I’ve been thinking about moving to LA or around the area as I do
enjoy the warmer clients of SoCal.
Things are all up in the air as I am not sure for now if my work will allow me to stay here. If not is it worth it for me to look for jobs here and are there plenty. My career is in the IT industry but have been wanting to do something else if at all possible. For now I just need to make sure that I can cover my bills and if I can save then great right. As for where I want to live I have no clue as I don’t have friends area here. As for myself, I am in my 30’s Asian male and want to be close to or live around a diverse area.
Close to the Asian seen as well but not in an area where its too loud. Of course it has got to be safe right! I drive but given all that I hear about traffic. I will be riding my motorcycle more then I will drive which shouldn’t pose a problem if I need to commute a bit.
I’m sure you have read all the reasons for people wanting to move to LA but for me. Its that I am just tired and confuse as to what I real want in life. I figure it can’t hurt to meet new people and might be better for me.
So, what it the cost of living in SoCal and is it really that great from what I read and hear from others.
I always hear the weather the weather but besides that does everyone really enjoy where they are at.

Thank, I know this was long but really want some advise.

I hope you get a lot of responses from different folks, because you've actually asked a lot of different questions. I'll start it off with just one aspect. Areas of L.A. with large Asian communities, that are near lots of employment porspects would be Garden Grove, Gardena, Koreatown, West Los Angeles around UCLA, a lot of the South Bay, etc. There's also lots of purely residential areas of the Asian community without concomitant jobs nearby, so I've ignored those.

There are signicant Asian communities in the west San Gabriel Valley - Alhambra, San Marino, San Gabriel, Monterey Park, etc. The city-data city descriptions can help you a lot with this sort of thing. Check rent/buy prices online (craigslist, lalife.com) to see if those cities work for you.

Pasadena, Glendale, and downtown LA are all decent commutes from these cities; but since I'm not well-versed in the IT job market, I don't know where your big centers for employment might be.

it sounds as if you are looking for other people to make grand life decisions for you. you need to clear your confusion about what YOU want to do, and where YOU want to be, and then follow your clear-headed self out of san diego to wherever it takes you next. no one who doesn't know you can help you with that.

good luck.

Blue04,
You have some soul searching to do before you go anyhere. You can't make a decision about something like this if you have no idea what you want, you will (most likely) end up in another situation lonely and confused like you are now.

About 2 years ago I really needed to figure things out. I'll say in advance that I'm not hocking or plugging anything, this helped me immensely. It's kinda out-there but it helped me clarify what I wanted to do (I'd fallen into depression) and once I realised I had to return home to L.A., I figured out how to do it.

What does this have to do with the Los Angeles forum? Plenty. Many inquire trying to figure out if this is the place for them and with some help, they can figure it out easier. BTW, I vote Alhambra for a community with many Asians.

Here's The Secret movie for free. Spend 90 minutes and check it out. It may be difficult to wrap your brain around it. Watch it a few times and then decide what to do. Good luck.

no I am not asking for someone to make a decision for me. Just wanted more info on where would be a good fit for me. I am planning on taking a trip down garden grove and other areas just to look around sense I am already in SD.

it seems that I do and trying to sort things out right now. So much has change with my job in the last 2 month. I enjoyed my job for the past 3yr but with all the changes I don't care for it too much. How is the job market, well I guess I will find out. Been using craigslist for now. thanks for the vid. link, will check it out later today.

what i'm saying is that no one but you can know that, when all we know about you is that you're asian, you don't like san diego, you don't like your IT job anymore, and you are confused. had you said you don't like san diego because it has A, B, and C and is lacking X, Y, and Z, then you could expect to find others willing to help you compare those likes and dislikes with what you'll encounter in LA. or, had you said you don't like IT anymore, and believe you might like to try your hand at W instead, and asked about the LA job market for W, that would be a starting point to get information. however, the i dont know what to with my life or where to live please help me approach to city-data is pretty useless.

(nice to see you around again, sorcerer. the secret is being discussed on oprah right now.)

I'm feeling you, Blue. Earlier this year I was pretty much in the same position you are. The first thing I did was make a list of everything I didn't like (which you have) and more importantly, what do you want out of life. Let the sky be the limit, no holds barred. Then figure out where you need to live to have that life. One resource which I found very helpful was Find Your Spot.com. I'm sure there are websites that can assist you in finding the areas that are in need of, or there are a lot of openings, in your new career choice. Good Luck.
