Agoura Hills to downtown would be pretty bad as the freeway would be the only way (there is the busway to the subway....not sure how many people would use it from AH)

Nothing less than an hour, for any of them, in rush hour. Mission Viejo would be 2-1/2 hrs. It can take up to 1/2-hr just to get off of the RPV hill.

commuting
Hi...I'm an East Coaster with some job prospects in Agoura Hills and Thousand Oaks. Not familar with the area at all. Have some friends in Hollywood, N. Hollywood, Santa Monica, Culver City & downtown LA that I can roomate with. None of them are 9-5'ers though, and I am curious if driving to Agoura Hills everyday would be doable from any of those places? I have been on the 101 enough times to figure that it will suck, but it would be great to be able to live in Santa Monica but I don't want to have to do 60 minutes in the car each way! I am coming from the DC area and have already spent the better part of the last 4 years stuck in a car. Thanks for any advice....

The only traffic worse than DC is LA - but not by much.
I'll assume your hours are normal and you can't pull a 6-230 shift and beat most traffic.
The consensus has pretty much been that Agoura Hills, Westlake, Thousand Oaks, just about anywhere in the Conejo Valley would be a challenge for a single person. It's very suburban, family, soccer moms, etc.
Santa Monica, we've read, is a neat fun place to live and in your case it might not be as bad heading towards the Conejo Valley as most people are heading away from the Conejo Valley to the LA basin via Malibu Canyon or the 101. So, you'd be going against traffic - good for you - but still probably not a totally easy drive. It's also a pretty drive.
The other way of looking at is (and this has also been pretty conventional advice) is to still live near your job and on weekends, cruise over the hill towards the night spots. (I wonder just how many people require "night spots" like bars and clubs to socialize - I never did.) It you are into mountain bike riding, softball, volleyball leagues, then the Conejo Valley wouldn't be so bad for a single. (I've been there - I lived single in Moorpark and worked at Point Mugu Naval Air Station - it doesn't get much worse than that - there were probably more single women in San Quentin.)

If the job is in Aguora Hills it seems like you will be going against traffic. Seems like this is misunderstood by other posters. So your commute might be better.

All of these places look like insane commutes to downtown LA (which is what I am going to assume you are asking). You are looking at over an hour commute on all of them and maybe a two to three hour commute on some of the others.

Just to clarify, there were two (almost opposite) questions asked in the same thread.
