Default Commute Advice

I live in the Los Feliz area and just got a M-F 9-6 job in Santa Monica. Any advice on buses/public transportation vs. driving or alternate routes/carpooling suggestions would be appreciated. I know there's no easy way around the long trip but any input (other than telling me to move or find another job) would be appreciated.

Thanks
