Default Romer MS boundary established, Milikan MS and Madison MS trade attendance areas

http://www.laschools.org/employee/mp...aps/Proj06.pdf

The boundary for Roy Romer MS has been established. Romer is relieving Reed, Sun Valley, and Madison.

In addition
* Madison MS and Millikan MS traded areas in their attendance zones. I am not sure if apartments or houses (or both) were traded. I would like to see Los Angeles zoning maps, but I think that Millikan should become more oriented towards Sherman Oaks.
* A chunk of the Madison MS boundary is changing to a choice between Madison MS, Byrd MS, and Sun Valley MS

Let's look at the population figures for Millikan and Madison:
* Millikan: Robert A. Millikan Middle School, Sherman Oaks California / CA school information
* Madison: James Madison Middle School, North Hollywood California / CA school information

Millikan's figures are still above 2,000 but are starting to decrease. LAUSD needs to get the school down to 1,200. Madison will see a sharp decrease as Romer MS is opening, and it desperately needs one as it is at 2,500: James Madison Middle School, North Hollywood California / CA school information

The largest MS in Houston ISD has around 1,800 people and it was designed to hold that many students. The large LAUSD middle schools are frightening in a way...

we could talk about why our schools are so crowded, but the thread would rapidly become tiresome and be shut down. [heavy sigh]

Perhaps you could approach the concept in a community-specific manner - I.E. find a zoning map and say "There are too many apartments" or something like that.

youre telling me!!!! i wish the middle schools in my area had 2100 students. they are closer to the 4k mark.

Gage middle in HP is 3900
Edison on hooper is 2400
Nimitz in Maywood/HP is 3500
SG middle 3200 (only because it was relieved by southeast middle)
Wash Carver is 2900

these schools have way too many kids. the southeast area was overlooked for the longest time. most of the schools are old and over crowded. fortunately now new schools are being built to accomodate the density of the area.

it really is exciting. but i agree that the district has a long way to go.
