Advice on buying a house a few doors down from a pedophile...
Of course, I mean if you don't have kids!!
I am supposed to decide by tomorrow whether or not to accept on a house thats only 2 doors down from a registered pedophile
My realtor seems to think its no big deal but he's a not a single woman living alone!
Does anyone know if pedophiles tend to do other crimes like peep in windows or expose themselves etc etc...? I had a peeping tom at my last house and I was never really comfortable living there after I caught him.
If nothing else, wouldn't it make it really hard to sell the house later on?

I personally would not even think about it.
Keep in mind your realtors advice has alot to do with the reality that they make their money WHEN you buy the house.
You can look him up and find out precisely what he did in the past. Yes pedophiles commit other types of crimes then just the full blown crime of sexually assualting children. Peeping in windows, stealing womens underwear and jewelry, there are all kinds of little things like that, that fit in with the sick mind of a pedophile.
Before you rule this house out completely I would research what the guy actually did. He could be listed for having sex with his girlfriend when she was 17 and he was 19. That would be VERY different then him as an adult molesting a child.

If nothing else, think of the tough time you'll have selling it down the road if he's still there and prospective buyers do their homework. Hell, it may even be a required disclosure some day if it isn't already.

Why even consider this house. In a market like this I am sure that you have many other options. How confident would you feel if your friends or family members have children and they come to visit you. Would you feel a bit differently about the amount of potential risk that they could be in?
If I were you I would be very afraid to knowingly live that close to a person with sexual impulse control issues. I'm just saying...

Very true Escape! Actually thats how I looked it up. It was in one of the forms I had to sign that said they didn't know of anyone nearby (because its a bank sale) but that I should look up meganslaw.ca.gov. Otherwise, I admit I would have never thought of it. I was too busy worrying about termites!
I was also thinking tonight that even if he prefers to prey on kids, he might have some very weird/creepy/dangerous friends.
The funny thing is that my mom thought it wasn't a big deal since I'm not a child ..but I was still uncomfortable.

Thats a really good point! hadn't thought of that since I don't know many people in LA..but who knows if my future friends will have kids..
I swear I was sure everyone was going to say "go ahead and buy the house"..he won't attack adults or he won't dare do anything since he knows his picture is posted etc etc..
I'm really glad I asked.
