job in rosemead, where to live for family of 5?
My husband has a job opportunity in Rosemead and I was wondering where would a family with kids ages 8,7 and 4 live. We would be coming from Florida and I am not familiar with that area. I would like to find good public schools and a family friendly area. We will be renting and looking to spend under $3500/month. Safety and schools are my top priority. Private schools would be an option but I would prefer public at least through elementary school. What areas would you all recommend? Thanks for your help. We will have to make a very quick decision as the job starts 7/1.

moving to rosemead
Rosemead schools are pretty bad.
You could move to the Northern part of San Gabriel, which is the city adjacent to Rosemead, and residents of that area attend San Marino schools, which are among the best in LA. At worst, they might be attending the grammar and middle schools in North San Gabriel, which are reasonably good. San Gabriel High School is not very good.
North San Gabriel is a very nice community. Very few apartments, but a lot of single family residences. I think if you looked, you could find something in your budget.
Or, you could drive a short distance to work and live in Temple City, Arcadia, South Pasadena, or Sierra Madre, all of which have good schools (except Sierra Madre doesn't have its own High School).
It's a nice area. Good luck.

Thanks for the replies. Yes job would be at Edison. I'll research those areas. Keep the info coming. It is so hard to be so far away.

I worked at Edison in Rosemead in 1984. There were vanpools back then, a huge fleet. I took a vanpool from Woodland Hills to Rosemead believe it or not.

Arcadia is a nice city..So is Sierra Madre (I work here)..Sierra Madre is a small community and it has a nice little downtown area with shops. It is also one of the safest cities in the area.

Temple City schools are top-notch. You might consider the north part of Temple City or the part of San Gabriel just above it.

For safety and good schools for your kids try South Pasadena, Arcadia or Temple City. San Marino would be great but there's not much in your price range and little if any rental housing. La Canada Flintridge is a little further but also a good choice if you can find the right price. Some areas of La Canada on the west are actually in the Glendale school district, not bad but not as good as La Canada.
