Safety concern for Korea Town in LA
I'm going to attend a conference at LA convention center. Since my family members plan to join me I'd like to drive my new car from the Bay Area to LA, and book a suite/condo hotel for 1 week. There's a Rotex Hotel&Condos on W. Olympics Ave (Korea Town), 3 miles away from the convention center. My major concern: Is the place safe enough for me to park my new car there all the nights? The hotel provides complimentary parking. Thanks for your help.

Bah, you're totally safe. What are you worried about - your car getting a ding, or getting it stolen?
KTown along Olympic is fine. Some parts of KTown are shady, certainly, but the main strips are fine.

since the hotel provides free parking (presumably in an underground or gated lot), you should be fine. karkyco is right that ktown can be shady in some areas, but it's really not that bad. i wouldn't worry about it.

Ca. 1980 I was walking along Olympic Blvd out of a rough area (I know; what I did was risky, I was about age 22 and thought I was invincible then) and wound up in K-town-------the whole vibe was different. It was akin to crossing into the Twilight Zone.......the businesses had their doors open, I saw few if any sketchy people and no bars on the windows to speak of.

The only way I'd park my car in that area is if it were off the street in a private, secure lot. If the hotel provides secure off-the-street parking, go for it. Otherwise, check your insurance policy or go to rent a wreck.

I've parked my car on the street overnight there. No worries. These days in Koreatown at night, there's NOTHING going on .

I think you'll be fine in that area. I go to Koreatown quite a bit and have never had a problem there.

I doubt you'll have any trouble. I pass through often without incident. Try one of the spas, or grab a bite at Taylor's Steakhouse on 8th, sez I.

The challenging part about Koreatown is not getting your car stolen. It's finding a place to park.

I've had a lot of fun in Korea Town, but that part of Olympic Boulevard is a drag. Go up to Wilshire. Corner of Wilshire and Normandy there's a nice high rise hotel. Ramada, maybe?
