Default Where are the worst areas in Pasadena?

Hi
I am a student moving to pasadena next month. I already read some of the other threads and I kind of understand where are the nice areas to stay. the thing is I can't really afford the rent around old pasadena. And I understand that north of the freeway 210 is not as safe but most of the places i can afford are around there. So can you tell me what areas to avoid so i can try to find a decent area to live(10-15 minutes walk from old pas)? I just want to find a place where is safe and I don't have to feel uncomfortable walking during anytime of the day.

Thanks I really appreciate your help.

Hey I moved to Pasadena almost a year and I live North or above the 210 & I LOVE it! I've never have any problems. Very nice neighbors-- I live in a gated community & am a 5 min walk from the Metro/Greyhound and 10-15 mins from Old Town. It is an awesome place for being a complete newcomer to CA. I think LA would have been too overwhleming. I just moved to another place yesterday (has a pool )-- but if you're interested here's the apartment: 2nd floor, Vaulted Ceilings, Wood floors, Private Patio (http://losangeles.craigslist.org/sgv/apa/731677547.html - broken link)

It's literally one street north of the 210: Maple & Lake
I hear the sketchiness starts past Lake Ave & Washington Blvd.

Good Luck!! Feel free to post any questions.
